CarltonDry.Please : I have been a CNC operator for about 8 years and machine 4140 grade steel, seeing that demo was cool! How deep were those cuts on the second side? And with no coolant as well! Awesome!

Hardus Lauwrens : that poor cutting plate is screaming for coolant, but I do know when making Videos only dry runs are used. I am a CNC-mechanic from Switzerland and I am amazed that HAAS isn't so popular over here.

PizzaChet : About 1:45 the insert corner gives way and they quickly cut away to another shot lol. It would last a few parts with the coolant on and obscuring the view.

The ST40 divertor innovation story--fast-tracking a tokamak upgrade during a global pandemic
Fast-tracking a divertor into ST40 during the Covid-19 pandemic--how did they do it?
In 2019, the Divertor Team was designing a divertor for a future major upgrade of ST40. But then, in early 2020, it was decided to fast-track a divertor into the current ST40, without a major upgrade, in order to improve performance for the 100 million degree milestone.
It was always going to be a huge challenge, but then coronavirus struck as well. But Tokamak Energy prides itself on the team's agility and innovation.

ps200306 : Really appreciate the regular updates from Tokamak Energy. I've been following fusion prospects for more than forty years -- before the start of JET -- and it's really exciting to now see commercial ventures like TE coming on in leaps and bounds. The HTS ReBCO tapes and now the technically challenging divertor are starting to make compact fusion look like a genuinely practical possibility. Looking forward to the progress over the next few years.
