Canon EOS 5D Mark II: Worth buying in 2020?

Amazon USA - https://amzn.to/33ofmEL UK - https://amzn.to/33ib2a0
The 5d Mark II released in 2008 was at the time a big seller for the company. Fast forward over 10 years, I take a look at the Canon to see how it holds up, where it's left lagging a bit compared to newer cameras. And if it is worth picking one up for the very modest outlay they sell for on the second hand market.

In this video I cover the body design/ergonomics, image quality, autofocus performance, low light/high ISO and talk briefly about the video capabilities - which are by modern standards fairly limited, but still at a level which is good enough to be useful to many users

Mr Baz Reviews : If you have a 5d II and want to share your own experiences using one feel free to comment.
Overall once you factor in the very low s/h price, on balance I think it is worth getting one if you want a genuinely affordable full frame body

Ejim J : Had a buddy of mine challenge me on cinematography with his 5d mark iv against my mark ii. Had to shut him down real quick.
KpopNiDontStop : The people who bought it new back in the day LOL.
Quazi Sanjeed : So long as a DSLR's job is to take quality pictures, Canon 5DII remains relevant. This legend was never meant to be an action shooter. Therefore, it must not be evaluated on that attribute.

It delivers class leading quality for the purposes it's intended i.e., indoor portraits, product and landscape photography.
alannntho : I still shoot with my 5D mark ii today !!!
Aamir Aziz : I don't like those camera if your background if out of focus only focus objects , I was making videos with M1 M3 M5 M7 M10 M2500 M3500 HV SUPER 4500 FOR me was best camera inside M7 M10 AND M3500 for out side M10 M2500 AND 4500 I know you never heard about them
Dani A. : love this cam. but now i have an mirror error :(
Tyson Gaming : For $400 I'm getting 5d2 Tamron 70-300 and canon 28-90 ,8gb CF and a bag
John Simpson : What professional camera would any of you recommend for a budget of $2000

The camera is for professional action photography mostly in day light and some in low light conditions. Super fast and accurate auto focus in video and still photography. Weather resistant body. Good battery life.
Excellent stabilization. With at least 7fps at 24 to 61 megapixels. My preference is 30 to 61 megapixels. 4k at 24 or 30 fps (60 fps would be fantastic)
I'm taking 600mm telephoto shots so an appropriate crop factor is necessary.

I'm going to use a Sigma 60-600 lens.

A fully articulating screen is necessary.

Shooting at night so, backlit function buttons would be great.

Cameras that I've been considering: Used Nikon D850, Used Canon D5 Mark 4, New EOS R6 (a little over budget), I like the Sony's but the screen won't move to the side ( very important).

For the fun of it I'd like to take some of those amazing milky way galaxy long exposure shots so, a low ISO setting would be necessary.

If any one of you have any suggestions I'd be very appreciative.
John Simpson : Answer: Yes

Rodrigo Paixão : Nice Video dude! I also have my 5D Mark II and still one the best camera ever. The JPEG is awesome, the colors, every thing is fantastic. Is a true tank!
4everacoustic : Still using, enjoying, and growing with mine (wish I were more skilled on the video side though)
vadergrd : you know about the trabant ... chapeau ! :D
sharon terry : WHAT WOULD BE BETTER IMAGE CANON 5D M2 OR CANON 250D??
Marcus Mccurtis : This will be an upgrade from a T5
EXIF : Very good video. Thank you for reminding us all of the beauty of this camera. Nowadays we often forget how powerful our "old" tools are. Since there's a lot of hype going on about the R and the R5... – I use my 5D Mk II since 5 years for work and my clients are still happy with my content. ;-)
HeliRy : No sooner do I reply that I’m never giving mine up, than the shutter block nerfs itself. Now the dilemma, it’s roughly a $500 fix to a camera that is probably worth about $600. Or try and fix it myself for $100, fair chance I’ll just make things worse though.
Fix it, or shelf it and pull the trigger on an EOS R? Hmmmm
Jerry Moran : FYI THE VIDEO IN MY 5D2 WAS ABSOLUTELY SHARP AND SOUND WAS BETTER THAN THE MARK3 Right about the 70-200 L4 is the best lens and we have several. This video has just convinced me to go find another one. The first one took a dunk and cost to repair is more than the current price. Any idea on best place to buy with acceptable guarantee? Excellent video. By the way our work is published in magazines .
Zulf Photography : Hi nicely covered I'm planning to dedicate an episode to this camera on a future Photography Live Show. Could I feature sections your video as part of a Q and A on the show?
HeliRy : Doubt I’ll ever give up my II. I yearned for it for years before finally getting one just as the III was coming out.
Yes, it has lower overall megapixels than current models. By a long margin. But as you hinted at, anything more than a dozen MP is far more than most people need. I mean unless you are shooting for a image large enough to fill up a billboard.... lol.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II | Still Relevant? Shooting Full Frame on a Budget | Jessops

Welcome to our YouTube channel!
Can you get a Full Frame camera for less than £500? Yes you can and you can even get a lens with it too! Second hand is a great way of getting Pro gear on a budget.
Ian \u0026 Lizzie from the Academy team went straight to our "used" section of our website to see what they could find and the discovered a real gem of a camera.

The 5D Mark II was a real game changer when it launched so we thought this would be the perfect opportunity for Ian \u0026 Lizzie to take you through why 12 years on, it's still a very relevant \u0026 capable camera.
This camera may not have all the bells and whistles of the up to date version but that doesn't mean it doesn't deliver on quality. The Canon EOS 5D Mark II is a great piece of kit for those out there who really love the fundamentals of photography.

Jeffrey Samuel : This is still my main camera in 2020, for the value it is still the best dslr to buy these days in my opinion. I've tried fuji, sony and nikon cameras and the simplicity of the 5D makes shooting very enjoyable. The dynamic range isn't the best but if you get your exposure right or even slightly off there is some wiggle in JPEG and a lot more in raw.
Carmen Falkenburg : I have taken awesome portraits with the Mark 11
Aamir Aziz : I don't like those camera if your background if out of focus only focus objects , I was making videos with M1 M3 M5 M7 M10 M2500 M3500 HV SUPER 4500 FOR me was best camera inside M7 M10 AND M3500 for out side M10 M2500 AND 4500 I know you never heard about them
Aamir Aziz : All your background out of focus
Actual Counterfactual : June 2020 and just bought a 2nd hand 5Dii, like brand new only 7k clicks... 2nd hand prices are now fabulous ... great value for money.
The reason I went for a 5Dii was that I bought 2x 6D which BOTH failed on me!!! I therefore do not trust the 6D model ... and I decided for something that has been heavily used by pro photographers over a prolonged time but still at a bargain price. This body is good enough for 95% of my needs, I used the 5Dii over a few weeks under various conditions such as low-light /sun /rain /indoors /outdoors etc and this 5Dii is still a VERY capable camera. Since I'm mainly a stills-image shooter who shot for around 25 years (pre-digital as well) and I have very little interest in video, so I'm looking forward to use it for many years to come and even use it for some paid jobs.
I'm not shooting sports and don't need exceptional crazy frame rates. Auto focus is good enough if you use the center spot only and I also find RAW files up to ISO 3200 to be good enough to sell to wedding clients if you use good lenses (might need a SLIGHT noise reduction in Lightroom on a few occasions). Normally its only photographers who pixel-peep, clients are more focused on moments and emotions instead of technicality.
Also, try to put some outside perspective into our consumer society where we are tricked into getting new gear/upgrades all the time. It was not that long ago Professionals used EOS-D1 for their corporate work and created fantastic images displayed on large billboards. The list-price for D1 on release was around 6500 Dollars even though the resolution was a meagre 4 MegaPixel only, but still photographers managed to generate fantastic photos on such small resolution. Some of the best + most historical images we seen are pre-digital, taken using a camera which literally was a box with a piece of glass in the front without any technology.
Today people are buying cameras that are more powerful than the computer that took humanity to the moon in the 1960s... AND they cost as much as a second-hand car!!!!
Even so, we often still see generic photos that could have been taken with any consumer camera. So looks like we don't need better more expensive gear, we need better photographers ... we have become so lazy with too much "auto" expectations.
Ale Leiva : Doy you recommend getting one for press photography?, I have a 7D Mark II and I want to jump into FullFrame, or maybe I should keep saving money for a 5D Mark III?
Zulf Photography : Hi, great video I will be dedicating an episode of the Photography Live Show to the 5dmk2 could we show sections of your video as part of the show?
Paul Kent : For video, I was using this for paid work up until last week.
Honestly it's only been downgraded to a B camera.
As long as you can manually pull focus it produces gorgeous footage.

As for photos I still use it for that too.
Stephen Arsenault : Any possible way to buy your cameras and have them shipped to the U.S.?
Peter C : My 5D mark ii has around 900k shutter count and it still takes beautiful photos and crazy good raw video with magic lantern
