USPATRIOT99 : Everyone's first shoe in my opinion should be the Allen Edmonds Fifth Avenue (which that shoe is). In that dark brown you can wear it with anything and people will be impressed because its timeless and looks amazing. It could really be your only shoe if you are not into style.

David Saintloth : I recently decided to build a shoe and boot collection for the type of wear pattern I have but also to cater for the type of weather we get here seasonally in NYC.

First, boots are my go to all purpose foul weather shoe. In particular rubber soled Chukka's. Rubber soles because they are simply more comfortable for high frequency wear cycles, also the rubber sole is better for water repelling than leather soles ...especially during the NYC rain and snow during the late Fall and Winter months, Chukka's because they have a style that can be dressed up or down.

I bought 2 pair of brown Chukka's from Nordstrom Rack about 3 months ago. Andrew Marc, they are not real leather but the material for the upper is very sturdy, the soles are rubber but the heel has air cavities. I am looking to get the heels replaced with solid rubber ones to dramatically extend the life of the boot for not too much. I bought 2 to allow cycling but today decided to buy a third pair to reduce cycle time per boot.

Next are my dress shoes. I had a couple of beater shoes that I bought cheap and needed to build a fresh shoe wardrobe so I did some research and decided on AceMarks. In one shot I bought the following:

1) Oxford toe cap Black 10.5
2) Oxford toe cap Cienna 10.5
3) Chukka's Oxblood 11
4) Chukka's Black 11
5) Double Monkstrap Oxblood 10.5
6) Bluchers Plain toe Black 10.5
7) Bluchers Plain toe Oxblood 10.5

Note I bought two Chukka's despite having already having the two rubber sole pair...these AceMarks would be the rarely worn dress up Chukka's for fair weather excursions. No snow or rain is intended to touch these babies!

So far...having the set for a few weeks I've only worn two out of the house...though my fit was measured perfectly using their tool the shoes are snug across the arch and still need some flexing (I maybe should have gotten an E width for my size). The first wear of the Oxblood Chukka's and the Monkstraps was pretty painful..the monkstrap strap hugs too closely to the top of the arch and I'll have to flex the leather their away from my foot or apply padding to break that part in to prevent chafing...but I am pretty sure once worn a few more times they'll all be super comfortable.

That said, if I do get another set (plan was to get another Blutcher (Brown) , another monkstrap (Brown), a Derby (Ciena), 2 Chelsea boots (Black/Oxblood) I'll be sure to buy them all in 11 instead of the 10.5 which will mean less break in time from first wear.
Solid Foundations : Khoi, great picks! A great alternative to Chelsea boots are Jodphur boots, tho I think they are actually still a little polarizing too. Also my pick for canvas sneakers are a white on white tretorn sneaker.

Travis Krapf : I did notice a size difference but I also compared two pairs of the winterized lined corduroy Leewards to a pair of Black Watch a/os in the same size. Before I buy a larger size in the a/o black watch I was curious if anyone can speak to the size difference. I literally couldn’t even squeeze into the a/os whereas the leewards fit like a glove and even accommodated socks (it’s cool out) after a couple weeks of wear, though I prefer the barefoot look tbh. Thanks for the informative video and for any advice!
sloankennedy : Get the white bottom ones if going on someone's yacht. Most boat owners wouldn't let you wear the dark sole shoe since it's impossible to get the scuff marks out. Also probably why the white bottoms have the channels for better grip in wet conditions.
